It is always sad to learn of the passing of good person. When it is a former colleague, it brings with it the sadness of knowing there will never be that chance meeting or reunion. Yet when the person is someone as sweet and good as Betsy, the sadness is eased by recalling all the times of joy, laughter and even hard times shared. It was only 5 years nearly 30 years ago at INSLAW yet Betsy has always been one I have remembered with fondness and gratitude. May her family find comfort is learning how many lives she touched.

To the Davis family, I send my heart felt sympathy for Betsy's death. Having spent many childhood summers together with her grandmother, Olive, we always tried to stay in touch. And she honored our friendship by flying out to Chicago to stand as Godmother to our first born son, Joe. Every now and then we would connect via phone, with a lengthy conversation. I am shocked to read of her passing.
Please know that she is greatly missed.
Love to you all, Lu Tobias Kelly

Betsy, today is one of the coldest days ever recorded in New Jersey. To me, it's not coincidental that this coldest day falls on the day of your memorial ceremony. The power you eminated with your smile warmed the IEEE. Your energy infused us. Today we are colder. We know it will warm up but today's weather suits the mood I am feeling about your loss. I write this with a heavy heart. It will get warmer in New Jersey and the IEEE will continue to be robust, but New Jersey, the IEEE and the world will not be the same without you.

Walking through the caferia in the morning and not seeing her smiling face just doesn't feel right. Whatever challenges she was facing she always said she was so blessed. It's obvious what an impact and legacy she has left and that is heart warming. May you continue to shine your light Betsy - you've left all of us with a much better perspective on life, making everyone you touched a better person because of what they learned from you!

I am another saddened member of the Washington book club, where Betsy's comments were always insightful but never harsh. Truly she was a warm and gentle soul. I hear her soft voice and Texas accent in my mind, and feel that we're just waiting for her to come back and visit. It's a nice feeling, and I'm going to keep it, because the world without Betsy is a sadder place. My deepest condolences to her family. She was much loved.

My deepest condolences to Betsy's family. This is huge loss for her family, friends, community, and the world. It's not often in life one comes across a person quite as amazing, caring, funny, helpful, genuine, and positive as Betsy. I knew of no other Betsy. I will miss our frequent chats, her sage advice and funny stories, and our love of srirarcha sauce. Her warming "Hey Pat" in the mornings will be tough for me. During the 1980's and early 90's, Betsy and I lived on different floors in the President Adams apartment building on Capitol Hill. We soon became close friends and later, became the founding members of a book club that is 23 years old this month. On behalf of Betsy's book club friends, we send our love and prayers to Betsy's family and friends. We feel we know you because Betsy spoke of you so often and with the greatest of warmth and fondness. We will miss our wonderfully gentle, kind, compassionate, considerate, mischievous, and intelligent friend. Kiss the cherubs in heaven for us, Betsy. When we look to the clouds, we will see your beatific smile. G-d bless you and keep you.

To the family of Elizabeth (Betsy) Brooks Davis, I wish to send you my prayers of comfort as we all grieve the loss of this beautiful soul! I along with all of her colleagues at the IEEE will miss her dearly. The obituary said it so well in speaking to her "spirit" and the impact that she had on anyone that she encountered. It is for this reason that I felt as if I personally lost a family member, I will truly miss your smile, words of wisdom and welcoming personality. May you rest in peace at the right hand of our father, Betsy. Until we meet again, God's Peace. DRD

Betsy Davis and I first met when I came to work at IEEE. No one knew Betsy but to be fond of her. Unassuming, she spent her life in a manner that could be an example to all. Faithful and loyal, she was always ready to cast a mantle of charity and forgiveness to those who had erred. One never felt her presence without being richer for having enjoyed her friendship. More than most, she saw deep in the hearts she knew and they, in turn, found unfailing the cove of goodness in her eyes. Her confidence was sacred in that one found a true and devoted friend in Betsy.
Betsy was keenly alert to suffering and often shared with those less fortunate than herself. She offered the many lessons of her colorful life as mileposts to her friends. I never knew her father and the folks in her beloved Leonard, TX; but she spoke of them constantly, with a continuous supply of stories and insights. I found myself enchanted by her Texas wit and quiet grace, and came to value her wise counsel.
To her friends and her family is left the memory of a beautiful life and the small treasure of the privilege of having her friendship. The next time I have the feeling to go have a quiet chat with Betsy, I do not know where I will go. More humble and modest a person is indeed hard to find. I shall miss my friend from Texas. Requiescat in pacem.

Betsy showed up in life as herself...what you saw was what you got...it was never less and it was always good.
Remember always...
What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.
Remember always...
To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.
And remember always...
Say not in grief: "She is no more", but live in thankfulness that she was.
God bless you Betsy. The rest of us have already been blessed by your presence.
