I came to know Lou through wonderful stories Patricia told.
I came to know Lou through his writings- I reread each one.
-enjoying his wonderful humor and humanity.
What a gifted story teller!
His love of Patricia shone..
He knew how to be a friend-that was clear .
I know he is not far away.

I’ve thought about you so many times over the many years since you were my professor at Rutgers during the summer of 1976. Today I thought to myself, why not track down Louie and get together for a drink? I missed you by 19 days, buddy. My loss. Thanks for the positive impact you made on my life as a young man. Sweet dreams...until we meet again...

Sorry to hear about Lou's passing. He hired me at MRI and for that I am eternally grateful. Truly one of a kind. Here is a photo I found of Alain and Lou at one of MRI's Chicago client celebrations, this one at the old Moosehead Grill on or near Fat Tuesday in the mid 90's.

We were Delta Chi fraternity brothers at Michigan State in the mid-1960s. I thank him for his Army military service. He was one of the most unique individuals I had the pleasure to know while at MSU.
Eternal peace Brother Bender.

Lou was a very special person. The way he carried himself had a great impact on me as a young man when I attended Rutgers University. So much so, that I asked him to write a recommendation for me for Dental school. I got in and would credit him for it every time I saw him afterwards. He had the ability to connect with people and treated everyone with dignity and respect. A very special person indeed who will be greatly missed.

Lou was my friend and mentor. I laughed with him, complained to him and could talk to him for hours. I will miss him so very much, but I feel lucky to have wonderful memories. Now if I could only remember some of those jokes...
Love to you Patricia and please let Glenn and I know if we can help you in any way.
Love, Kathi

NO, that is NOT a missing tooth! That's a cigar clamped in his mouth as he guides The Pit into still waters.

To the family of the deceased: Please accept my sincere sympathy. It breaks our hearts when death separates us from our love one's. Please accept the scripture at Revelation 21-3-5 where it says there will be no more pain, crying, or dying in the hope that has been promised. 1st. Thessalonians 4:13-14 refers to death as a deep sleep. Looking forward with you for the wonderful day when those we love so much awakens from their sleep. John 5:28-29.

The Right Reverend Lou Bender and I bonded when I emceed and he won the Ugliest Greek contest where he appeared as "Tarzan Retired". A perfect example of his incredible sense of humor. He was a great man and one of my best friends and one of the greatest MSU alumni. I will miss his humor, humanity and loyalty more than I can say. Rest easy, my brother. I love you.

Lou was quite the guy! I still remember sitting on the front porch of Homestead at with my parents when you all walked by. Remember Pat? My mom thought Lou was your dad! Oops!!! Well, that oops was the stepping stone to many, many years of friendship. Our entire family looked forward to seeing Lou and Pat every summer at Kathan Kamps.
He will truly be missed.
