Obituary of Robert F. Shine Sr.
Robert F.”Rocky” Shine Sr., 79, of New Brunswick passed away unexpectedly on December 8, 2018. He was a life-long resident of New Brunswick. Born at St. Peter’s Hospital to Lawrence and Marion (McKenzie) Shine, he had 2 brothers, Lawrence (deceased) and Joseph of North Carolina. Rocky attended St. Peters’ grammar and high school (class of ‘58), and had just attended his 60th reunion. Rocky was a hard worker, spending the majority of his career at Krauszer’s Dairy, New Brunswick, later retiring from Tuscan Dairy, Union. Proudly together with his son they owned and operated Shine Trucking.
Rocky loved sports, both as an outstanding player and spectator. He was a star running back and infielder for St. Peter’s. He was a lifelong Boston Red Sox, Rutgers and Notre Dame Fan, always showing his support by wearing his team’s logos. As his grandson went through Sayreville football programs, the Leprechauns and Bombers joined the list of his favorite teams to support.
Rocky was a family man, married to the love of his life, Rose Marie A. (Catalano) Shine for 51 years before her passing in 2012. They had two children, Robert F. Shine Jr. of Sayreville and Robin Marie (Shine) Marcello and her husband John of North Brunswick. Together they were his world. Rocky had many names: son, Brother, brother in-law, uncle, godfather, cousin, husband, dad, father in-law, friend, but grandfather was his most cherished. His grandson Robert F. Shine III was his pride and joy, always quick to pull a picture of him from his wallet. He also had a beautiful granddaughter Summiaya Shine.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, December 12, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 13, at 10am at St Mary of Mount Virgin, 190 Sandford St, New Brunswick, followed by burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Brunswick.
