Obituary of Maria Slobodian
Maria Slobodian, 91, of Monmouth Junction passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2nd.
Maria was an active member of The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in New Brunswick. She was a longtime member and President of the Sisterhood as well as one of the original co-founders of the church. She was a dedicated participant in the choir at church. Maria was a member of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America as well as one of its co-founders. She also was an avid supporter of Plast USA, the Ukrainian Scouting Organization.
Maria is predeceased by her parents Andriy and Anna Harasymowycz, a daughter Lesia, and her loving husband Michael. She is survived by two daughters; Sonia Bokalo and her husband Peter, and Vira Popel and her husband George. Maria is also survived by three grandchildren; Taras Popel and his wife Larissa, Andrea Popel, and Melanie Pyrih and her husband Adrian. She also leaves behind one great grandson Mychasyk Popel. She will be dearly missed by everyone her life touched.
Family and friends are invited to Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick for a Visitation on Friday, September 7th from 6:30PM to 9:00PM with a Parastas Prayer Service at 7:30PM. A last Viewing will be held at Boylan Funeral Home at 10:30AM on Saturday, September 8th, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30AM at The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in New Brunswick. She will be laid to rest immediately following the Mass at St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Cemetery.
