Edith Shneer

Obituary of Edith Mary Shneer

Edith (Edie) Mary Shneer passed peacefully on March 20, 2024. Edith was born on July 29, 1942 to Edith Marie (Huntley) and Vincent Frank Biro in New Brunswick and raised her entire life in Edison. To all who knew and loved her, she went by Edie. More than a year later, the family was complete when her sister and best friend Florence (Floey) was born. To say the family was closely knit would be an understatement! After graduation, Edie got a job with the Edison Board of Education and started working as a secretary at Edison High School, and later at Washington Elementary School. Thomas Jefferson Middle School was her longest assignment as head secretary. She “…was always recognized by the district and the principals with whom she worked as a dedicated, talented, and loyal employee and a woman of great character.” Edie retired in 2004 and was honored by the entire staff and recognized for her many contributions to the field of education. Edie was a loving and devoted wife to Walter Shneer since July 1977 in which she gained three stepdaughters, Midge Hoffman (Rod Bolman), Wanda (deceased June 2023) and Stacey Kelsall (Kevin). Edie was also doting and devoted Godmother to twins, Kristin Murphy and Kimberly Iseman since 1981. Edie has four grandchildren, Kyle (Deborah) and Benjamin Hoffman, and Anastasia and Walter Kelsall; and two great grandchildren, Evelyn and Adelyn Hoffman. In her spare time, Edie loved spending time doing her needlepoint and sewing, shopping with Floey, coffee with Michaela and her monthly Lunch Bunch Meeting with the girls from TJ! Edie had a warm heart and loved to laugh. Edie was predeceased by stepdaughter Wanda (2023); her sister, Florence Schofield (2022); brother-in-law, John (Jack) L. Schofield, jr. (2010); mother Edith (2007) and father Vincent (1998); and dear Cocker Spaniel companion, Rusty. Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Avenue, Edison; and on Monday, March 25th from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m..
