Obituary of Mary Monahan
Mary Monahan of Highland Park, NJ passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was ninety-four years old.
Mary was born in New York City and moved with her parents and siblings to New Jersey where she attended St. Paul School in Highland Park and graduated from St. Peter’s High School in New Brunswick, NJ. She worked for many years as a medical technician and was a hospice volunteer in retirement.
She was a longtime parishioner of St. Paul’s Church in Highland Park. She loved spending time with her family as well as traveling, and summer vacations on Long Beach Island and Point Lookout. She was a voracious reader and an avid fan of crossword puzzles. She enjoyed cooking and baking and other creative pursuits including knitting beautiful sweaters, baby clothes and blankets for her family and many dear friends.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Thomas J. Monahan. She is survived by her sister, Sr. Ann Casserly; six children, Mary Anne Lowell (Jeff), Thomas M. Monahan (Lori), Michael Monahan (Carol Ann), John Monahan (Lisa), James Monahan (Denise), Teresa Monahan; and nine grandchildren, Kevin, Craig, Liam, Caitlin (Phillip), Thomas (Christina), Matthew, Gavin, Andrew and Daniel.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Thursday October 5th, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 6th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church in Highland Park, NJ. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway, NJ.
